The highway from Bombay to Pune goes quickly into the mountains outside of Navi Mumbai. These hill station towns are pretty easy weekend getaways into nature from Bombay. Monsoon time is excellent. Nice hiking. This area is also accessible by train (2-2.5 hrs) and its a pretty ride through tunnels and past waterfalls.
